Sweet little 50s novelty print dress in sage green cotton with a lovely print with musical theme combined with butterflies and flowers. There are sheet music with spring themes - Mendelssohn's Spring and Floral Dance in Piano Forte and Butterfly Waltz. Lovely pastelly colours in soft pinks, blues, yellows and turquoise. Fitted sleeveless bodice with a wide rounded high neck in front and back. Waist nips in for the classic 50s silhouette and the skirt falls in small gathers from the waistband, with a lovely full fit and generous hem. Back metal zipper fastener. Label is Lorraine's, London and it has an additional label by the zipper, which might be the name of the shop that stocked it. Perfect spring/summer number.
Dress is pictured with a petticoat which is not included in the sale.
The dress is not labeled with a size but fits approx like a Small. For your best fit please refer to the measurements.
Shoulder to waist: 14.5"
(There is a 3" hem on this)
-Some very very faint mottling/spotting hidden in the print of the bodice, hardly noticeable, see last photo.
-I think this has had some form of alteration to the arm openings, possibly originally had sleeves which were removed to make it sleeveless? though it's hard to say. The arm openings are now finished with a running stitch seam and are not zigzagged/overlocked on the inside, so the inside hem shows a tiny bit of fraying, which can't be seen on the outside when worn. Could be redone more neatly by adding a bias band on the inside and handstitching, but it's not overly noticeable as is, so absolutely fine to wear without doing this if you don't mind the running stitch finish.
