Elegant French late 40s dress by Ariane, Cherbourg. Made from a heavier satin fabric in a lovely green and black fine striped pattern. Dress fastens to the front with a metal zipper and has a small hook and eye to the neck and a pointed collar. Short sleeves with a small fold to the upper arm with a velvet trim underneath and two decorative pockets. Waistline nips in and comes with a slim matching belt with covered buckle. Very full skirt with a tiered design towards the hem, again finished with a black velvet band underneath and small decorative buttons.
Dress is pictured with a petticoat which is not included in the sale.SIZE
The dress is not labeled with a size but fits approx like a UK6 or an XS, fit is slightly PETITE / SHORT-WAISTED so would best suit a shorter lady. For your best fit please refer to the measurements.
Fit on model:
Chest: 33" (best fit slightly smaller as fabric has no give)
Shoulder to waist: 14"
Across shoulders: approx 14.5"
(There is a 2.5" hem on this)
-Some signs of light wear: some tiny little scuffs to the fabric in places and one tiny pin hole near the bottom of the zipper. A couple of faint marks to the lower part of the skirt. Some slight lightening in colour (I think, the satin sheen is very deceptive) across the shoulders/sleeves but this isn't very obivous because of the satin sheen.
-Some possible alterations: May have been rehemmed, but original hem appears to be uncut. I also think zipper may have been replaced as it is handsewn in and there is a very slight 0.1" misalignment at the waistband, probably a historical zipper replacement as it's an original metal zip. None of this is particularly noticeable when worn.
-Belt buckle shows a little bit of wear to extremities.
