Stunning deep purple silk velvet evening dress. This is soft as a feather and light and drape, a true delight to wear. Drop waisted bodice with fitted waist and sleeveless top. Wide deep square neckline. Princess skirt with diagonal waist seams over the hip and v-draped back with wide pleating. Large decorative bow to one side of the hip, backed with a dusky pink metallic striped fabric for contrast. Generous midi length and a dramatic sweep. No labels, possibly handmade. Approx late 40s / early 50s era. Metal zip at back.
