Wonderful super soft and slightly fuzzy textured pure wool coat in a lovely dark navy/midnight blue shade. Super large curved collar and wide dolman sleeve with padded shoulders. Single oversized button to the bust/high waist. Flared cut with full skirted sweep. Slot pockets on the hip. Fully lined. Made in the UK by Pauline Wynne Jones, a rather rare and overlooked label from the era, partly as the label was never taken mainstream and Wynne Jones largely catered to a small amount of select clients and shops. Wynne Jones spent some years working for Jean Muir in the 60s before establishing her own label, the V&A also has some of her pieces, giving an idea of the quality involved. The Times referred to her as, “One of the best and least recognised of British designers” and “one of the most consistent and yet consistently unsung talents in the country.” A little know but very worthy contemporary to Ossie Clark, Jean Muir, Miss Mouse et al. Late 70s era but with a very 40s / 50s inspired silhouette - reproduction done very well! It's stunning and so cosy and very versatile, can be worn as a swing coat but also looks fanastic worn with a belt to create more of a 50s inspired silhouette, as shown in the photos.
Please note the belt in the photos is not included in the sale.
The coat is labeled a size 10, but I think it was meant to fit very oversized, I would estimate this to be almost a Free Size, works well belted in on smaller sizes, but would also suit a M-L, but this depends on how loose/tight fit you prefer. Please refer to the measurements for your best fit.
(coat is clipped to fit the model)
14" sleeve from underarm to cuff
