Handmade vintage dress in a vintage 50s novelty pattern in black cotton with red leaves and small jockeys/horse riders in yellow, blue and red. Fitted bodice with a v-neck with collar. Short sleeve. Fitted waistband and very gently a-lined skirt.
No labels, completely handmade, which makes this hard to date. I've had an original 50s dress in this same fabric before, but the cut on this dress looks more like a 60s silhouette than 50s. The internal finishes and thread looks original vintage, but to complicate things: someone has at a later date added modern nylon zip to the side seam. This is sewn in a modern thread with a different stitch than the internal seam work and whilst the internal work looks done by a home sewer, the added zip looks like it has been professionally put in. To conclude (it's always a bit of detective work!) I think this is a handmade 60s dress, made from a 50s fabric, which probably original did not have fasteners, and hence a later contemporary owner has had a modern zip added.
The dress is not labeled with a size but fits approx like a Medium. For your best fit please refer to the measurements.
Fit on model: clipped to fit.
Shoulder to waist: 15"
Shoulder seam to shoulder seam: 15"
(There is a shgrt hem on this)
Good condition. Dress is handmade so some of the finishes aren't perfect, fabric isn't perfectly pattern matched to the bodice for example. The zipper looks like it has been added, as the thread/stitching is different from the rest of the dress, and zipper is a modern nylon zip, it's also been put in on the left rather than the right hand side.
