Fantastic bright red princess coat. I mean, this is just so good, dramatic silhouette and a bold bright red colour. It's a showstopper. 50s inspired style with the fullest of full skirts and decorative assymmetric buttoning. Deep neckline with big rounded lapel and button down shoulder flaps. Long sleeves with strap and button design on the cuff. Waist is fitted and comes with a semi-belt to the back which fastens with four covered buttons. Skirt is very full, not quite full circle, but very close and has concealed slot pockets on the hip. Coat fastens to the front with seven slightly off-centre covered buttons and loops. Fabric feels like a soft wool or wool blend, lined in a lightweight silky textured synthetic. No labels or tags, and no signs these have been removed. This is so fantastic, a fusion of 50s New Look era and 70s Art Deco. The silhouette is just to die for!
NB. Dating wise, as this has no labels and very few fasteners to go by, it's not entirely straight forward to pin down. It was sold to me as 70s and the backs of the covered buttons looks like they could be 70s and the big collar and buttoning certainly strikes me as very 70s does Art Deco. But the lining has me slightly stumped as it is looks more modern, it's a kind of lightweight synthetic, polyester I think, that I haven't seen in any 70s coats, but commonly in more modern or even contemporary coats. I'm wondering if it could have been relined, as the lining strikes me as more modern than the exterior of the coat, which could explain why there are no signs of labels or removed labels, but scrutinising it internally it's just doesn't look like it so in that case it was done VERY professionally. A bit of a mystery, and without labels or anything else to go by, I can't say for certain. Regardless it is a truly fantastic coat!
Pictured with a petticoat which is not included in the sale.
The coat is not labeled with a size but fits approx like a modern day Medium. For your best fit please refer to the measurements, and remember to allow a little room for movement.
Chest: 37" (but this would best fit around a 36" chest)
Waist: 30" (this is measured with the back strap fully buttoned up as intended - if unbuttoned the waist measures 34" so there is a little bit of room to let the waist out by moving the buttons if needed)
Shoulder to waist: 15.5-16"
Sleeve, from underarm to cuff: 18.5"
Shoulder seam to shoulder seam at top back: 15.5"
Length: 43" from nape to hem
Very good condition.
-One very faint marks by the bottom button, see photo.
-Lining is very good, not holes or rips or split seams, just some slight bobbling to the hip area in a small patch, but this is quite slight.
