Beautifully cut silky 30s chiffon dress in a soft light brown shade with pale yellow, green and pastelly peach floral print. The silhouette is classic for the ear with a skimming bias cut silhouette with floor length. Strapless bodice with a draped cowl neckline and v-back. Intricate v-shaped panelling to the underbust. The lower part of the skirt has an interesting design with a dropped zigzaged seam and a kind of flared hanky hem below the knee to give the bottom of the dress quite a bit of fullness and movement. The hole piece is lined in a pink non-sheer crepe. Most likely a hand tailored piece. Very delicate and such a classic 30s design.
Dress is pictured with a petticoat which is not included in the sale.
SIZE
The dress is not labeled with a size but fits approx like a Small to Medium, the bias cut gives this a bit of room, no fasteners so pulls over the head. For your best fit please refer to the measurements.
Fit on model:
Chest: 36" to 40" stretched with the bias cut
Waist: 34-38"
Hip: up to 42" approx
Shoulder to underbust: approx 12"
Length: approx 59" on the hanger, but will shorten as it stretches on the bias
CONDITION
Good condition. Some signs of wear consistent with age, but still very wearable. The outer chiffon is in pretty good condition with nothing to noticeable, but the pink lining has suffered more damage but as it is underneath it doesn't show so much when worn.
-Some small pin / pen tip sized holes in the outer chiffon, quite hard to spot in the fullness, most I can find are in the cowl on the neck which really only show if it is held to the light. Shown in two last photos.
-Lining several small holes, which looks like moth damage. Most are to the back of the lining and most are small and in clusters but there is aslo a linear repair near the hem where a bigger hole has been sewn up and one long machine sewn repair to the back bum/thigh area, fairly straight down the middle, it's not super neat and makes the fabric curve a litle bit at the bum area, but this is just the lining, so not that obvious when worn. The lining is only attached at shoulders and neckline, so removing and wearing over your own slip would be an option.
-Some slight fray wear to chiffon at the undearms, fairly minor.
I have priced this pretty low for such an old and still very wearable piece, but it is priced to reflect condition and a bit of a wounded bird.
