Sweet handmade 40s cotton dress in a blue-grey, bright orange, white and black plaid. Draped slightly blousey bodice with high empire waist and lovely honeycomb gathered stitching to the shoulder seam. Long sleeve with tight fitting cuffs and slkightly puffed shoulders. Skirt falls freely from underbust down and is cut on the bias. Unlined. Side seam fastens with a hook and eye and popper button.
SIZE
The dress is not labeled with a size but fits approx like a Small. For your best fit please refer to the measurements.
Fit on model:
Chest: 38" (meant to fit blousey, so would advice for 34-35")
Underbust/Empire waist: 29"
Hip: 42" (this is bias cut so would best fit quite a bit smaller)
Shoulder to high waist: 14.5"
Sleeve from underarm to cuff: 15.5"
Shoulder seam to shoulder seam: 15.5"
Length: 42" (will fit slightly shorter as skirt stretches on the bias)
(There is a short handsewn hem on this)
CONDITION
Good condition. This is handmade so a little bit imperfectly finished internally in places, but nothing that really shows when worn. Sleeve cuffs are backed in a different fabric, not matching, but as it is inside the cuff, this doesn't show. No overlocking or zigzagging to seam allowances so these show a fair bit of fraying. Hem is handsewn but looking at some of the panellling a the seam allowance, I wonder if this may originally have been longer, and have been taken up.
